The vessel Axel Mærsk joined the fleet, marking the final addition to Maersk’s series of large dual-fuel methanol-powered container vessels.
With the delivery of the 16,200 TEU Axel Mærsk, Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller – Maersk has completed the world’s first series of large container ships capable of running on green methanol.
The vessel was officially named and delivered at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) shipyard in South Korea on 27 May and is already sailing the East–West trade lane on its maiden voyage.
From Laura Mærsk to Axel Mærsk, each dual-fuel vessel marks a bold step toward a net-zero future.
…said the company in a social media statement.
Maersk began this transition in July 2023, when the company took delivery of its first green methanol-powered containership, a 2,100 TEU vessel.
