The companies worked on a Proof Of Concept exercise, built on IBM Blockchain Platform, applying and then testing a blockchain-based supply chain platform to track and trace cargo movement from Chongqing to Singapore through the Southern Transport Corridor.

Drones are gaining more and more a position in maritime industry, especially in ship inspections -conventionally conducted by humans-, as they have been identified as a way to save time and money and to enhance workforce safety. 

KR is considering the development of a VR training simulator. The VR ship inspection simulator provides surveyor training software to train a ship surveyor on the classification rules and inspection procedures, using a realistic ship environment.

In collaboration with MTI Corporation, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha developed the diagnostic tool "Kirari MUSE" that collects the operating sound of ships' engine equipment in an effort to utilize big data. Kirari MUSE visualizes the sound of the engine and it diagnoses the condition.

Researchers from North Carolina State University have developed what they call the first unmanned, fixed-wing aircraft, capable of traveling both through the air and underwater, transitioning repeatedly between sky and sea. The EagleRay XAV holds promise for use in applications such as tracking and observing wildlife.

At the end of 2017, Strava, a mobile appthat tracks athletic activity, released a global heatmap showing the “anonymised” movement patterns of its users who did not keep their data private. Among these users are seafarers and people on offshore platforms as well.

He showcased a case study to address the benefits of big data analysis which are as follows: situation awareness and forecasting, managing end to end processes within the company and partners, capitalizing on mobility to react on time to the upcoming challenges, fully meeting statutory requirements.
