A general cargo vessel was robbed by a group of armed men at Mongla Port, Bangladesh, on 26 May.
The attack occurred in the Base Creek area of the Pussur Channel in Bangladesh where the vessel had been stranded since June 2024 due to a mechanical fault.
According to a local news outlet, fourteen armed robbers approached the ship in a fishing trawler, tied up all seven crew members, including the chief officer and looted the vessel over the span of two hours.
Furthermore, three crew members have sustained injuries during the robbery and received medical attention onboard. The attackers reportedly also stole essential equipment, fuel oil, food supplies and personal belongings.
A formal complaint has been filed, prompting the Coast Guard to launch an operation to recover the stolen items and track down the robbers. The Mongla Port authorities have also opened an investigation into the incident.
