AD Ports Group, Masdar, Advario, and the CMA CGM Group have signed a collaboration agreement to explore the development of an e-methanol bunkering and export facility at Khalifa Port and KEZAD in the UAE.
As informed, the project will provide critical infrastructure to complete the supply value chain and bridge commercial e-methanol production with key off-takers, such as CMA CGM, in support of accelerating the decarbonisation of the global shipping industry.
The agreement also reinforces the UAE-France strategic partnership, fostered through the High-Level Business Council held annually between both countries, further leveraging mobilisation of the private sectors to deliver sustainable economic development and partnerships.
Saif Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer–Ports Cluster at AD Ports Group, emphasized that the agreement marks a major step toward a more sustainable maritime industry through the development of e-methanol facilities, benefiting both the environment and economy. Additionally, Dr. Faye Al Hersh, Head of Green Hydrogen Business Development (UAE) at Masdar, highlighted the importance of green hydrogen and e-methanol in decarbonizing the shipping sector and noted that the partnership strengthens the UAE’s role in sustainable innovation.
Bas Verkooijen, Chief Executive Officer at Advario, expressed the company’s commitment to the energy transition and saw the collaboration as a driver for long-term sustainable progress.
Finally, Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President for Assets and Operations at CMA CGM Group, underscored the company’s investment in low-carbon vessels and described the partnership as a key milestone in building the infrastructure needed to scale up sustainable marine fuels.
